I had a boss in the Indian Police Service, who played safe all his life – he never took a bold stand, nor did he ever uphold any principles. His only goal was to please his bosses and take the easy way out.
Nobody respected him – I certainly did not.
Years ago, when I heard that he retired, I felt sad for him because he would never again get a chance to redeem himself.
And this is a trap we can all fall into – playing safe all the time — not standing for what we believe in.
Doing the hard thing extracts a price – for sure. But always taking the easy way out also carries a price – our self-respect.
We live only once. There will be no second life to redeem the first one. Live this life fully.
