I live in a private residential complex owned by a group of IAS/IPS officers in Kerala. And when these IAS officers retire, often as the Chief Secretary (the highest rank in the state government), almost all of them take some post-retirement gig with the government.
Here is the funny thing – once people retire, they absolutely want a job. But the youngsters who are working, are dying to retire by age 40, after quickly making their millions.
But if you retire at 40, what will you do for the next 30-40 years? Play football on the beach? With whom? (Assuming you find a clean enough beach, which appears unlikely)
The retired guy envies the guy with a job, while the latter envies the former. The kids envy the adults, and vice-versa.
And thus, this envy trail goes on and on, no end in sight.
