If someone does a 6 hour Netflix binge and feels great about it even a week or month later, then in my opinion, he is doing ok. Maybe, he should do more of that. I may not agree with his choice, but I don’t have the right to judge his choices just as he can’t judge mine.
However, very often, our momentary craving-driven actions lead to regret and guilt later. Based on my conversations, I have a hunch that 90% people feel terrible after a long Netflix binge; I don’t have statistically significant data to prove it, though.
Then why choose a life of focus and discipline?
The answer is simple – don’t trust me; trust your own experience. Just adhere to a disciplined routine for two weeks, and chances are, you will never want to go back.
Over time I have learned that most of the magic in life is hidden in hard things. One thing I tell our bootcamp participants about following any tough routine is that – you don’t have to like it, you just have to do it. Chances are, in a few days or weeks, you will see your life changing.
We know what is right or us. It is just that our mind is messing us up. The one thing I have learned from my life experiences is until we learn to override our mind, we can’t be free.
The pain of discipline is the price of freedom.
