Think of someone you really, really envy. It could be anyone — a billionaire, a film star, a Nobel laureate, or even a Buddhist monk. Have you thought of a person?
Now, would you swap your life for theirs?
If yes, here is the deal: You get all they have, including their intellect, their looks, their material possessions (including private jets and islands — if any), and so on.
But there is one catch — you can’t pick and choose only the good things. You get everything.
You get their innermost struggles, relationship problems, health issues, their own insecurities and jealousies, and anything that is part of their life.
Will you take this deal?
I think we know the answer. You won’t.
Then why do we compare ourselves with others? We don’t know what anyone’s life is — we just assume things.
Instead of vying to be like another person, could your own life be the adventure you are seeking?
I think so. With patience and grit, build the life you want. Inculcate the qualities you admire in others, learn the things that fascinate you, and build a career that gives you financial independence and meaning.
Life has dealt us some cards. Don’t worry about what cards others got– they got theirs, you got yours.
Just play your cards well.
