“There is no peace that lives within us constantly and never leaves us. There is only the peace that must be won again and again, each new day of our lives.” — Herman Hesse
Sometimes, we get frustrated that we are not always calm and joyful. We even get angry about getting angry 🙂
This is all part of being human. Even when you start your day with meditation, feeling calm and peaceful, when something disturbing happens, you are again in turmoil. And that’s ok – not all is lost.
In his book ‘The Miracle of Mindfulness’, Thich Nhat Hanh shares very simple ideas for bringing mindfulness into daily activities. Reading his book for the second time, this time I am trying actually to practice his teachings. They are truly delightful.
Joy and sadness, frustration and delight — they are all part of the deal. We can’t banish these emotions forever. But with a few mindful breaths, we can always reclaim our joy and peace.
That is how you find peace, again and again.
