When is it too late to start something?
Today, I came across this guy called Lew Hollander, who At 82, finished the Hawaii Ironman and held that world record for a while. He has run more than 100 ultramarathons and extreme events.
Today, at 94, Lew runs up a hill every morning to train himself. Surely, we can’t all be like Lew and genetics does play some role. But don’t we hugely underestimate what we are capable of doing?
We might be tempted to dismiss Lew’s case as an extreme athlete who does crazy things. Yeah, maybe, but he wasn’t a professional athlete to start with — he was a scientist and a physicist. And he got serious about fitness at age 55.
I am not suggesting we can all be like Lew or someone so exceptional. But there is one thing we can all do — we can start learning or pursuing our goals, practically anytime in our life (within reasonable limits).
It is too late when we decide it is too late.
