Life is not a popularity contest

Since I write on LinkedIn frequently, I occasionally get abused and trolled. And here is why I think it is a good thing.

When you have a strong point of view, you have two options:

1. You can say it as you see it. And in that process, you may offend someone.
2. Alternatively, you can water it down so that nobody is offended. But in that case, you are not really saying anything.

Watering down your point of view is like selling diluted milk. Those who like milk will hate you. And those who don’t will hate you anyway. Then what’s the point?

Be authentic. Say it as you see it. I am not saying – go offend people deliberately but avoiding trolling and abuse is also not the goal. Say and do the right thing, even when it is unpopular.

Whether you want to write, start a business, or build a corporate career – you can’t please everyone.

Life is not a popularity contest.
