Years ago, my first detox was not from unhealthy food or some bad habit, but from authority and power.
Working in the IPS had many good things, but one bad thing was that you get addicted to power and authority.
And I could see all the symptoms of addiction. When you have it, it doesn’t feel anything special but when you don’t have it, you miss it. You quickly get used to exercising authority, and then you want more. And even when you realize that it is not good for you, you can’t let it go.
Becoming a student after quitting the IPS was the best detox I could have gone through.
I sometimes wish I could become a student again and again — there is no privilege bigger than that.
