Productivity is not (and should not be) about extracting the most out of your life. We are not toothpaste tubes to be squeezed till the last drop.
Joyful, calm productivity is about three things:
- A deliberate life: Working on things that matter — the things you chose rather than being constantly driven by interruptions, emails, and notifications.
- A fully immersed life: Working on your task with a calm mind, without worrying unconsciously about all the other things you have to do.
- Maximum impact, not maximum hours.
The constant busyness we live in today violates all these three things. My prediction is that the next big revolution in workplace is coming. And it will change how we work.
In the upcoming age of AI and automation, the only competitive advantage you and I will have is deep thinking. And our current interruption-ridden working style totally destroys that.
I am working on some of these ideas and hope to showcase something in a month or two.
Technology, progress, and prosperity should make us happier, not busier. But instead, the modern workplace has become a symbol of drudgery, busyness, and unending distractions.
It has to change. And it will.
