Once, when I was working at McKinsey, someone said to me, “You are an introvert, right?”
It was an innocuous comment but I almost felt like he was making an accusation – I could feel my defensive barriers going up. I said, “You are also an introvert, aren’t you?”
He said, “Yeah, but just slightly – almost borderline, not like you.” So he was apparently better off than me.
It took me years to make peace with my introversion.
Today, as an entrepreneur I don’t have to give a damn about what anyone thinks – I can just be myself without fear of judgment. But in modern workplaces, introverts often struggle.
Introversion or extroversion make little difference to how successful you are. Let us give people the space to be themselves.
