Most small goals in life are like a football match — you can win, but you can also lose. If you are looking to crack a job interview or clear a particular exam, success is not guaranteed.
But fortunately, the really big goals in life are like a different kind of football match — this game doesn’t stop after 90 minutes. Here, there is no referee to blow the final whistle that says ‘game is up’.
In this new type of football game, the only person who can blow the final whistle is you. And you do that when you say, “I am done.”
If you want to become exceptionally good, whether as an accomplished musician, a standout computer programmer, a mountaineer, or anything else — there is no 90-minute time-limit in this game. This match goes on till you can take the pain and keep going.
I am not saying that is easy. When exhausted and broken, you can take a break and catch your breath. But as long as you can get up, dust yourself off, and start again, you can’t lose.
This game stops when we stop.
Now it is up to us.
